Music is manna to me. I’ve been attending and shooting music festivals since I was a kid growing up in Winnipeg and going out to Birds Hill Park for the very progressive Winnipeg Folk Festival. While I was at art school in Montreal I supported the Montreal Jazz Festival. Then once I moved to Vancouver to pursue filmmaking and photography, I discovered this festival and haven’t looked back since.
All along I wanted to do something to help support the festival but until 2016 we couldn’t find the right fit. Finally I was able to pitch them an idea that suited them perfectly.
We had a successful year working together and creating amazing marketing images with my 30 foot tripod. I timed my shooting to coincide with crowd sizes, the natural light and the bands on stage. I shot both standard 35mm digital images and panoramas of entire spaces.
I’m thrilled with the results and look forward to more years of music and photography with them. In the future, we are planning to expand our work together, to include video and time-lapse sequences, all shot using my 30 foot tripod.
Jon's work for the TD Vancouver International Jazz Festival was spectacular. He was a pleasure to work with, and his fresh perspective gave us a visual sense of our festival sites we'd not had before. I'd highly recommend Jon's work to anyone needing a shake up of how they conceptualize their event or business.Emma Lancaster - Director of Marketing and Business Development, Coastal Jazz
