Simply put, this is one of my favourite places on planet earth. I’m very interested in the desert ecosystem, how plants, animals, insects and birds have adapted to survive in this environment, and how time has shaped its landscape through geologic forces.
The Joshua Tree, which I first learned about from the cover photo on U2’s iconic album of the same name from the 80’s, can only survive in this part of the world. They are specifically adapted to this altitude, rainfall and overall climate. As you drive away from the park, and descend in altitude, the trees literally just stop at the point where the climate no longer meets their specific conditions any longer.
I’ve been to the park many times, and can’t seem to exhaust its beauty or its ability to surprise me with new and inspiring areas to photograph.
