In the lead up to the 2010 Olympic Winter Games here in Vancouver, I got very familiar with the Richmond Olympic Oval. While it was under construction, I photographed it from land, sea and air. Once it was completed, I shot it again from a helicopter.
This project was genius. They asked me to shoot the UBC Rowing team at their Fraser River training facility one morning as the sun rose. The background was either looking north towards Vancouver, or looking south towards the Oval, still under construction. Either way I couldn’t lose!
So I buckled up, dressed for the cold, and shadowed the rowers in a motorboat. It was a unique project that tested my skills as a low light photographer, and also gave me valuable experience shooting in the cold and on the water. And I loved every minute of it.
